Electrochemical Treatments.
  • Anodizing (Type II): An electrochemical conversion process primarily used on aluminum. The part is submerged in an acid electrolyte bath and acts as the anode while electrical current passes through. This forces oxygen ions to bond with the aluminum surface, creating a porous aluminum oxide layer that is highly corrosion-resistant and capable of absorbing organic dyes.
  • Hard Anodizing (Type III / Hardcoat): A more aggressive variation of standard anodizing performed at near-freezing temperatures with higher voltages. It produces an extremely dense, thick, and highly wear-resistant ceramic-like oxide layer. It is typically darker in color (gray, bronze, or black) and unsealed, making it ideal for aerospace and mechanical wear applications.
  • Electroplating: A method where a base metal is submerged in an electrolyte solution containing dissolved ions of the plating metal (e.g., nickel, zinc, chrome, or gold). An electrical current deposits a thin, uniform layer of the coating metal onto the substrate. It is used to improve electrical conductivity, prevent corrosion, and add a decorative shine.
  • Sand / Bead Blasting: A surface preparation technique where abrasive media (such as glass beads, aluminum oxide, or silicon carbide) is propelled at high speeds using compressed air. This removes surface contaminants, rust, and machining marks, leaving a uniform matte texture. It is commonly used as a foundational step to improve adhesion before powder coating or anodizing.
  • Tumbling: A mass-finishing process where parts are placed in a rotating or vibrating barrel or bowl alongside abrasive media, water, and chemical compounds. The gentle, continuous friction deburrs sharp edges, removes machining marks, and smooths surfaces. 
Thermal/Polymer Treatments.
  • Powder Coating: A dry finishing process that uses an electrostatic spray gun to apply finely ground thermoplastic or thermoset polymer powder onto an electrically grounded metal part. The coated parts are subsequently baked in an oven, causing the powder to melt and chemically cure into a hard, protective, and uniform skin.
